Today I have been developing the Research web page and some of its second-level content. For now, I am envisioning to have pages for the journal of Ecohydraulics, institutes & centers, ecohydraulic analysis platforms, and allied organizations.
The Journal web page is up and functional, though pretty light in content. I’ll seek input from the editors to fill that out as well as of course provide the direct link to the journal itself. Over time, I’m thinking we could have dynamic content highlighting new articles and providing direct links to Green or Gold Open Access versions of selected articles. We’ll see. In theory, we could download and host every single Green or Gold Open Access article if we wanted to, but that require a dedicated person to keep that up. Also, not sure it’s necessary. Just brainstorming…
The Allied Organizations page is up and functional, though also pretty light in content. The main content here is going to be links organized into categories. I decided to design this using the cool Accordions element in this WordPress theme. Unfortunately, it took me literally a few hours to get that to work the way I wanted it to, and i had to bust down to html to code it myself. Ugh. Still, I think it looks cool from a design perspective and I really like the way it provides some content about each link rather than just the old-school list of links we’re all used to. Now people can learn something about each organization without having to use the link.
The Institutes and Centers page does not exist yet. The idea there is going to be to allow all the bigger academic units to have a listing there. Not sure what style I’ll use for that yet. I don’t want to include all the individual faculty research labs in this area, because that would not be the right scale. My intent is to have that likely in the community area or just a separate area of the Research page. TBD. With maybe 800 of those, it is daunting to think about that right now, so I want to start with the larger groupings of research units, which already could be a lot. This is the challenge caused by how widely one interprets “ecohdyraulics” to span.
Finally, the Analysis Platforms page is going to be a place people can come to find a listing of all the different toolsets people have created. I’m talking about PHABSIM, MesoHABsim, CASiMiR, River builder, UCAT/UCUT, HEC-EFM, etc. The list goes on and on. At its heart, the ecohydraulics community is highly creative, so I think it is essential to showcase that creativity and the fruits of that effort.
